The grey paint trend is still going strong and for good reason. The classic catch-all colour is relaxing, stylish and sensible. Its endless versatility also makes this neutral universally popular, providing the perfect backdrop to just about any decor.
But because grey is more than just black and white combined together, selecting the right shade isn’t always easy. Its shifting undertones and sensitivity to natural light levels means it might look different once out of the paint can and on your walls.
To help you choose the ideal grey for your space, here are my 8 favourite hues, all by my go-to paint provider Benjamin Moore.
Silver Satin OC-26
Silver Satin is a light, slightly warm grey that retains a silvery, iridescent quality.
Classic Gray OC-23
Classic Gray is an off-white grey that adapts to its surroundings and can go a little greige to coordinate with warmer colours.
Balboa Mist OC-27
Balboa Mist has just a touch of warmth and pairs beautifully with both pale and deep colours. Thriving best in reasonably well-lit rooms, its purple undertone can read a wee bit pink.
Gray Owl 2137-60
Not too green or blue, Gray Owl hits the right balance between warm and cool. It’s ideal in south-facing rooms, reflecting light back into the space.
Rockport Gray HC-105
Rockport Gray is a warm, welcoming hue that reads neutral with its taupe undertones. It’s a deeper shade yet soft and muted, with a touch of green and purple.
Stonington Gray HC-170
Hazy and wispy, Stonington Gray has a cool blue undertone, though it can slide slightly blue-green at times.
Revere Pewter HC-172
Revere Pewter is a light-medium warm grey with a yellow-green undertone. It works best in rooms with northern or southern exposures, and larger spaces as it can feel heavy in a dark room or hallway.
Edgecomb Gray HC-173
Part of the heritage collection, Edgecomb Gray is timeless with a modern edge. It’s an earthy, organic neutral that is soft and stylish, skirting both the grey and beige worlds.
